Description
Salome looks at the severed head with satisfaction, a young girl triumphant. He who had condemned her mother, she who had danced naked for this prize, the head of John the Baptist, cousin of Christ, lays tenderly in her hands. Beside her is a man who whispers into her ear as he reaches out to hold her and to lend support for the head. The other bearded man is taken aback looking over John’s head peering into the distance, pondering what deed has been done.
